SEISMIC ELECTRICITY

Seismic Electric Phenomena

Nikolai Tarasov?

EGM: The Earthquakes Generating Machine

In the film "The Core" are shown the catatrophic consequences associated to the diminishing of the angular speed in the core of our planet. The rotation of the core permits the existence of the magnetosphere, which protects us of the radations heavier than the most intense UV rays. In the film is also shown the "why" in the diminishig of the speed in the rotation of the core: un ultrasecret army from the United States had developed an EGM that provoked them through Electromagnetic pulses. Thus they could quietly attack to any "enemy" country (Afghanistan, North Korea, etc.). However, the army overreacted and the shock waves went against of nucleus, provoking its slowness.

Fiction? WMD
Nowadays many scientist know how to create an earthquake withan efficiency of 2/3 (3 trials cause an average of seisms). Everything started in the 70's when a group of soviet scientists made a geoelectric mapping in the unstable zone of Takhijistan. The dipoles showed lengths of several kilometres and the injected currents were inmense. While the measures were made many seisms followed, but nobody made the correlation with the injection of current... upto 1993.

I) The Seismic Electrical correlation is discovered
In 1993 the scientist Nikolai Tarasov of the Physics Institute of the Earth in Moscow realised the correlation that existed between the injection of current and the beginning of a seism, which was "ilogical": the energy carried by the current was one million times lesser than the energy liberated by the seism. This is the same argument that is used (or it was used?) to make sure that the nuclear trials can't cause earthquakes. But there was still one possibility: May be the energy of the cuurent doesn't became an earthquake, but it "triggers one". Amazed by this hypothesis, Tarasov sought proofs to support it or refute it and he got some information from another geoelectric mapping made in 1980 in Tien Shan. Finally he made statistic and and discovered that the injection of intense current was able to trigger a seism in 2/3 of the times.
As it usually happens with the researches, Tarasov didn't take a long time to be head hunted by the USA and he is actually working in a group that makes researches on EGM.

II) Seismic Electric Phenomena
Many scientists have made reports of electric phenomena related to the occurrence of a seism. Some of these phenomena correspond to real prececessor signs that allow to have prior alerts. Let us imagine the weather forecast that that includes a comment of the type of: "For tomorrow the probability of a seism greater than 6.0 Richter is 60%. We advise you to take preventive measures...". Some seismic electric phenomena:

i) During the year 2001, the german scientist Röder, Büttner and Zimanowski reported how an electric sign can appear befor the occurrence of a teluric movement. The experiment is in the figure.
When F2 is greater than the static friction, the transductor T should create a certain acceleration. The interesting thing is that previous to the movement an electric signal, clearly identifiable to V appeared. These scientists verified their observations in the Estromboli volcano in Italy. According to their conclusions, the increase of F2 polarizes the interphase between the two geomaterials.

Subsequently micro-cracks appear that expose the fresh rock, causing a collection of electric charge, which corresponds to a predecessor signal. Finally during the seism a slide occurs and the discharge of the system.

ii) Fire balls
During some earthquakes some shining spheres have been watched that "flourish" from Earth leaving a shining sphere over the sky (similar to the "St Elmo's Fire" that has been observed in the mast of the ships during the electric storms). It's very likely that the origin of these balls were the mixture of piezoelectricity and Crown Effect.

iii) The Sindrome of "Alice in Wonderland"
Japanese scientists reported certain strange signals that preceded the Kobe earthquake (1995):
- Candle flames in the form of a U
- The second hands of the watches stopped or increase the speed
- Fish queue up and worms in line.
What is surprising of these facts is that they could all be reproduced in the Quantum Geophysics Lab of Osaka using for that strictly electric methods.

iv) Radio Waves
In 1991, while a scientific american team were researching on how the natural statics interfered with the satellite communications, the detector of Corralitos (México) showed a permanent radio wave of low frequency ( l ~ 100 Km). The signal was 20 times higher than normal, what war taken as an error of the detector.
However, a pair of hours later a strong seism happened and it was checked that the source of the anomalous signal was located in less of five miles out of the epicenter of this.

v) Interference in a Computerized Tomography
In 1989, the Technologist Mike Grayson was working on CTs in a hospital in Newcastle (New

South Wales) when the images started to show a strange interference. Seventeen minutes later an earthquake happened and made collapse a big sector of the hospital including the scanning room. According to Grayson: "If I saw that image again, I would be the first one to run away from the building"

III) Hypothesis
To complete the picture it corresponds to explain the "why" of these seismoelectric phenomena.
i) It is thought that injecting current the energy coming from it could be able, incidentally, to heat the undergroung water, increasing by this way the pressure in the sub-soil. If this increasing of pressure happens in an "adequated" zone, a slide of rocks could be caused, triggering an earthquake (with an energetic relation cause-efect of 1 out of 1 million ±)
ii) The Crust is full of piezoelectric rocks, that polarize in front of a pressure rise. Then, the polarization can be detected in a radius of a pair of kilometres with electrodes of scarcely fifty centimetres, what allows us to visualize the predecessor electric signals and be alert in front of a potential seism. On the contrary, if an electric current is applied to piezoelectric rocks, they are going to start to vibrate, that under certain "adequate" conditions could generate an earthquake.
